What a week! Our group of 35 students and 3 staff returned on Saturday after an unforgettable 10-day exchange in beautiful Tarragona, Spain. From the warm welcome at our host school, Institut Antoni de Martí i Franquès, to walks along La Rambla Nova (spotting the famous terrapins near the cathedral ), every day was packed with culture, fun, and unforgettable memories. In Reus, we explored the Gaudí Centre and had free time to explore the historical centre and its shops. We soaked up the stunning sea views from el balcón and the architecture of the old town Day six was a step back in time, tracing the footsteps of Emperor Augustus and Hadrian through Tarragona's incredible Roman heritage – including the only seaside amphitheatre in the former empire. Port Aventura theme park, along with our Spanish friends, brought thrills. Rollercoasters Shambhala and Dragon Khan were firm favourites! Our day in Barcelona was busy but brilliant! Views from Montjuïc, a stroll down Las Ramblas, and a visit to the stunning La Sagrada Família. We wrapped up with the immersive Camp Nou experience 20,000 steps well spent! And finally, our wonderful Spanish exchange ended on a high note with a perfect beach day warm sea, soft sand, and plenty of sunshine and smiles. An enormous gracias to our hosts in Spain and to everyone who made this exchange so special. A truly amazing experience for all involved.
We are currently seeking a part-time afternoon receptionist within our fully inclusive, all-through learning community. What an amazing week it's been in Primary as we celebrated Big Health and Happiness Week, alongside our whole-school Wellbeing Wednesday! This year's inspiring theme "Don't limit your challenges, challenge your limits" encouraged our students to step beyond their comfort zones and embrace meaningful, everyday challenges. Whether it was trying something new, tasting unfamiliar foods, exploring creative activities, or focusing on self-care, our students approached each opportunity with incredible enthusiasm and positivity. Several year groups had the exciting opportunity to visit the secondary school, where they learned from specialist staff. From exploring symbolism in history and experimenting with pottery, to hands-on experiences in Design & Technology, these cross-phase sessions sparked curiosity and confidence in learning new skills. It's the small steps that have the biggest impact lifting spirits, building resilience, and promoting positive mental health. We are so proud of the energy, courage and kindness shown by all our students this week. A massive well done to our House Team for all their hard work making the week such a success. We couldn't have delivered such an action-packed week without the incredible support of our wider community. A huge thank you to Tesco and Waitrose for generously donating food for our students to sample and enjoy. We're also incredibly grateful to the amazing organisations and individuals who kindly gave their time to share their skills, passions and energy with our students. Thanks to you, they experienced a wide range of exciting activities and learned something new. Yesterday, our Year 12 Drama & Theatre Studies students visited the Royal Shakespeare Theatre in Stratford-upon-Avon to see Titus Andronicus – Shakespeare's bloodiest tragedy! The gripping performance gave students a powerful insight into live theatre and Shakespearean drama. They were a credit to the school – engaged, enthusiastic, and impeccably behaved throughout. A wonderful experience that will inspire their future work on stage and in the classroom!
What an incredible day Year 5 had at the National Space Centre in Leicester on Tuesday! It was a fantastic opportunity to take learning beyond the classroomand it certainly didn't disappoint. From exploring the interactive exhibits to discovering fascinating facts about the solar system, the children were completely immersed in the world of space science. One of the highlights was the breathtaking planetarium show. We also got to enjoy an exciting rocketry demonstration that made all their recent science learning truly come to life. A brilliant experience for the students who can take this new experience and apply it to their classroom learning. Well done Year 5 and all the staff who helped make the trip possible. #Year5 #NationalSpaceCentre #learningbeyondtheclassroom
Just before our end of term break, six students from Year 1-6 took part in an exciting engineering celebration event, hosted by Primary Engineer. Their task was to design and build a car that would travel in a straight line and up a ramp. Our Year 1 and 2 children worked as a team, and those in KS2 worked independently, each harnessing their amazing creativity and STEM skills! Working on their cars both in school and at home, it was fantastic to see the student's finished designs on the big day and how hard they had each worked! Competing against a number of other local schools, their designs were put to the test in a range of categories. We're thrilled to share that our KS1 dream team, Arjun and Nirali, won "Best Theme" for their Bluey inspired car! A huge congratulations to you both, and a big well done to Bonetta, Leonidas, Elsie, and Toby for their fantastic creations too. You all did an incredible job!
The last day of term 5 was also a day of celebrations for our Year 13 students; sharing fond memories, plenty of throwback photos (which earned lots of laughter), and thanks to their teachers. Our Year 13 leavers assembly honoured student achievements and provided a great opportunity to see all their fancy dress costumes on display! Head Studies Maia and Rohini were also recognised for their hard work over the past two years, and we thank you for efforts you have each made to improving sixth form life and in raising funds for prom. It has been a pleasure to watch as the whole cohort has grown throughout their time at CCS, and we are thankful to have been part of their school education. Whether you joined us nearly 14 years ago in Reception, in Year 7, as an external student in Year 12, or somewhere in between, we are immensely proud of everything you have achieved thus far. Good luck to you all in your final exams – you've got this!
