UCAS Convention Trip Monday 20th June 2016
The UCAS Convention is being held on Monday the 20th June 2016 at Bedford University. This is an opportunity for students to meet representatives of universities from across the country and attend various workshops aimed at students about to make a university application. This is an extremely valuable day out and all Year 12 students are strongly encouraged to attend. Even if students do not currently feel that they will be going to university, it is important that they are fully informed before making this decision. The Convention offers a wide range of talks, from subject specific to generic UCAS application and student finance topics. These are very beneficial and we will hope to distribute a timetable so that students can plan their time beforehand.
The cost of this trip is £9.70 to cover the cost of coach transportation to and from the venue. Students should meet in the Study Centre for registration at 8.45am promptly. We will be leaving the convention at 2.15pm and anticipate returning to School at approximately 3.15pm. All students will be instructed to wear seat belts at all times whilst travelling on the coach. Students are expected to dress in accordance with the Sixth Form dress policy and wear their school lanyard. Students are able to take lunch with them or bring money to purchase food and refreshments. Students will be expected to stay on site at the University of Bedford for the duration of the visit.
All students must individually register on line for this event, print their tickets and have them when they arrive at the Convention. To avoid any hold ups on the day, we have arranged for tutor groups to do this during tutor time. All students will be advised to print two copies of their ticket; one to keep and one to hand in to their tutor so that we have a copy on the day.
Please note, students who are taking Further Maths at AS Level have an exam on Tuesday 21 June and are expected to prioritise revision for this. Lessons will be taking place in school on Monday. UCAS holds other conventions which students may wish to visit independently, further information can be found at https://www.ucas.com/events/exhibition. Alternatively, if they inform a member of the Sixth Form Team of their interests, we may be able to collect information on their behalf.
If you would like your son / daughter to participate in this valuable trip, please make the payment of £9.70 via www.ParentPay.com by Friday 6 May 2016 at the very latest. Please note that where parents use ‘ParentPay’ to pay for visits that take place out of school, this will be regarded as parent consent for your child to take part in this visit. This contribution is voluntary but where there are not enough voluntary contributions to make the visit possible then it will be cancelled.
If you would like your child to attend, but circumstances prevent you from paying, please contact the school on 01604 669200 or email firstname.lastname@example.org where this matter will be dealt with in confidence. Parents’ support for the school in providing additional curriculum enrichment experiences is much appreciated.
