We hope you have a lovely bank holiday weekend and half-term break! Continuing on our egg theme and as part of a recent task this week, Dr Ideson's Year 13 A Level History class were to decorate an egg based on a key historical figure from the French Revolution. Pictured below, we have Thom's entry, Marat (a journalist who was famously murdered in the bath) and Grace's entry, Danton (one of the main leaders of the French Revolution, with his announcement that Terror was necessary and so the guillotining would commence). Both Thom and Grace had the opportunity to present their egg creations to Mrs. Page's Year 8 History class, where they engaged in a friendly competition. After careful consideration, Marat emerged as the winner in the vote conducted by the Year 8 students. They are both fabulous entries, displaying creativity and intellectual playfulness, and proved some nice light relief from the pressures of essays plans for the upcoming exams! Well done historians!
Our Decorating Eggstravaganza competition was a cracking success! It was wonderful to see the creativity showcased by all the participants! From intricate designs to whimsical themes, every egg was a masterpiece in its own right. Huge congratulations to our talented winners! Your hard work truly paid off! And yes, you guessed it right - a delicious chocolate egg was given for all their eggstraordinary efforts! Thank you to everyone who participated and made this event so eggciting! #Eggstravaganza Check out our Facebook post for more pictures! It's been a busy few weeks for Performing Arts! Our Year 12 and 13 A-level students enjoyed a trip to Stratford last Thursday to see the Royal Shakespeare Company's new production of 'A Midsummer Night's Dream' starring Matthew Baynton. The production was superb and the students had a really entertaining evening, as well as, gaining some imaginative ideas to use as part of their own practical and written work in future. Our Musical Theatre Club were set a competition in February to select, choreograph, rehearse and perform (on video) one minute of a musical theatre song of their own choice, thus building upon their strategy planning and creativity skills. We had some fantastically creative and really fun entries (with Bruiser the dog from Legally Blonde being replaced by a parrot), and several students utilising green screens to great effect. We were so impressed with all the entries and the club members voted for the 'people's choice' award. Students were also awarded a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd trophy! Well done to all for your hard work and creativity!
Yesterday, our Year 3 learners embarked on an epic journey into the heart of Ancient Greece during their immersive Greek Day! From learning about Greek myths and legends to mastering the ancient Greek alphabet, the day was full of excitement and discovery. Engaging in lively discussions about Greek legends, our young scholars delved into the enchanting tales of gods and heroes, deepening their understanding of ancient storytelling. Exploring the nuances of the Greek alphabet, our students unlocked the secrets of an ancient language, paving the way for a deeper appreciation of history and culture. Tasting traditional delicacies allowed our learners to savour the flavours of Greece, fostering a sensory connection to the rich culinary heritage of this ancient civilization. And what's a Greek Day without some Zorba dancing? Our talented children showcased their moves, embracing the spirit of Greek culture with joy and enthusiasm! A massive thank you goes out to Mrs. Makopoulou for her invaluable assistance in our Greek day event! It was a day filled with laughter, learning, and cultural immersion, as our students expanded their horizons and journeyed back in time to ancient Greece. Here's to many more adventures in the realm of knowledge! #GreekDay #AncientGreece
On Monday, 130 of our Year 11 students set off on a day trip to both Hunstanton and Peterborough as part of their Geography fieldwork. During the day, students completed an investigation into the Coastal processes operating at Hunstanton and then travelled back to Peterborough to examine the success of town centre at reviving their economy. Data collection included a range of quantitative and qualitative approaches to systematically examine both the beach and the town to see what processes are operating there and how effective they have been in shaping two very different landscapes. The students behaved incredibly well, and even had some time to enjoy walking the pier and Peterborough highstreet after completing their work. There has been lots of great staff feedback, as well as the sight of wet trainers and soggy trousers from the beach and happy faces when McDonalds and Nandos was offered as their chance for lunch!
Last Friday was the start of our lunchtime Gardening Club, which is being led by some of our Year 6 students and supervised by a member of staff. It's been wonderful to witness the initiative our Year 6 students are demonstrating in their leadership and collaborative skills. The club is open to children in Year 1-3 and offers them an opportunity to enhance their environment while learning the art of gardening. It's been wonderful to observe the significant difference and transformation just one afternoon in the garden has brought about! We can't wait to see the growth and change over the coming weeks and months.
