Year 10 had a tricky friendly encounter with strong rivals NSB. Early play was 50/50 with both teams having good chances. T Chaffer coming close with a strike from 18 yards, and S Hughes making a good save from a close range strike from one of the NSB strikers. Towards the end of the half, NSB began to dominate possession and it was only a sublime last ditch challenge from A Gilmour that saved CCS from going behind on 20 minutes. However NSB’s possession paid off in the 28th minute when they broke down the left and the square ball was powered home from 9 yards out.
After half time NSB’s high percentage of possession continued and they scored again soon after the restart. CCS made some changes in personnel, due to injury, and a large squad size, and these changes seemed to pay off as the second half continued. CCS began to pass the ball more quickly than their opponents and began winning most of the 50/50 balls. In particular the commitment of substitute J Osborne was impressive. As a result CCS carved out numerous chances, another falling to the hard working T Chaffer. However it was a cool finish from C Malone that gave our boys a real chance to get back into the game. 2-1 Game on!
CCS were in the ascendancy for 10 minutes or so and really looked like they could score again, however a long ball and an unfortunate collision between striker and substitute goalkeeper D Bell resulted in a penalty to the visitors. The penalty was slotted home despite D Bell guessing the right way and almost getting fingertips to it. That made the score 3-1 and with only 10 minutes left it was hard to see a way back for CCS. However; it was a good spirited friendly which was enjoyed by all, and gave the CCS boys a good run out before their up coming District Cup fixture.
Well done boys, Mr Jousiffe
