Year 11 County Cup Football Success!

Monday 20th October 2008

CCS played Campion at home in a rain affected fixture to try to get through to the quarter finals of the County Cup. CCS have had close matches in the past against Campion and lost the last match 1 – 0. CCS out played Campion in the 1st half with excellent football but chances were missed. Campion actually scored first with a sloppy goal from CCS’s point of view but CCS fought back immediately with a well worked goal finished off by C Beech’s face!!!

Half time: 1-1

Unfortunately, the performance deteriorated in the 2nd half as CCS by-passed S Heavey and B Stanmore in the midfield and the possession stats went in favour of Campion. There were examples of some great defending and solid goal keeping in the second half by T Sears and the back four but a special mention must go to J Sears who unfortunately had a nasty injury and had to leave the field of play. B Howard also hobbled off injured but bravely hobbled back on for the last 10 minutes. As the light faded, CCS counter-attacked and Campion were caught napping. C Beech went into a 50/50 challenge with the goal keeper which resulted in the ball trickling over the line – scored. CCS held on after immense pressure and now go through to the quarter finals where they will meet either Danetre, Ferrers or Kingsthorpe. Final score 2- 1

Well done lads.
