Year 7 Girls highlight a brilliant X-Country performance

The Year 7 girls retained their title as District Champions with some excellent performance again this year. All top 6 finishers went through to the District team and next County race, with K. Lebon and Z. Garlick coming 1st and 2nd. The remainder of the team all had top 20 finishes, including R. Blessyn, E. Sobers, S. Yankovich, B. Pinto, J. Gilding, R.Thomas, A.Hardisty, L. Shaw and Z. Emmett. Their swimming training and commitment to the XC club certainly helped their performances. Overall they score 49 points – a mile ahead of any other school.

The year 7 boys did extremely well with overall 3rd place, J. Miller coming 3rd and S. Hamp very close behind in 4th place. Two other boys from the team also made the District selection and race in the County Race in January.

The year 8 and 9 girls fielded a strong team with M. Love coming 3rd place and F. Anyhoa and B. Goddard also making the District team. They achieved 3rd overall.

The 8 and 9 boys had some successful performances with a focused run by W. Greenwood achieving 6th place – his best ever finish in 3 years, and the new comer A. Westgarth coming 13th, N.Thumbwood ran well to sneak into the District team in 19th place.

A lack of enthusiasm saw the year 10 and 11 girl’s team depleted, yet E. Long ran her best race in 4 years coming 2nd against year 11 girls. Well done.

The year 10 and 11 boys should have been the strongest put out for the last 3 years, but didn’t want to run the 3 course lap. But up stepped L.O’Rourke, K. Garlick and J. Coade. They all worked extremely hard, K. Garlick coming a superb 2nd against yr 11’s, L. O’Rourke came 21st and J. Coade finished in the top 30.

Well done to the whole team and thanks Mr. Scott for running the X-Country team. Thanks to Mr Long, Mr and Mrs Lebon, and Mr and Mrs Henry for cheering on the team.
