U17 Football Team through to the County CupFinal!

Congratulations to the Year 12 Football team (with a little help from a few year 11’s!!) as they are through to the Under 17’s County Cup Final to be held at Bugbrooke F.C. after Easter. The County Cup involves teams from schools in Corby, Daventry, Wellingborough, Kettering, Northampton and South Northants so this is a brilliant achievement.

They beat Thomas Becket School (away) on penalties after extra time!! CCS went 1 nil down in the first half then J Croxford picked the ball up on the half way line, flicked it over 2 defenders and passed wide for a telling cross to be delivered back to J Croxford who scrambled it over the line. After half time J Croxford scored what apparently was the shot of the Millennium with a 25 yard strike that nestled into the top right hand corner. The keeper didn’t move! CCS conceded in the last minute for a 2-2 draw. Gutted!

Extra time remained goalless so the tie had to be decided on penalties!! 3 all on penalties and the shoot out went to sudden death. Up stepped J Davies who thrived on the pressure and slotted the ball into the top right corner. The Becket keeper took the next penalty and our keeper (C Bignall) dived like a penguin and made the save! The crowd (4 men and a dog) went wild!! (As did our players!)

Special mentions must go to Mr. Smith (Coach extraordinaire during the season) and Mr Oliver (for taking the team to this game in Mr. Smiths absence)

Well done to all the lads involved and good luck in the final!
