Between November 2008 and February 2009, students from Years 11, 12 and 13 took part in the ifs Student Investor Challenge where they compete in teams of four investing ‘£100,000’ in shares listed on the FTSE with the objective of achieving maximum growth through trading shares.
Despite the competition running at a particularly challenging time for the UK stock market, the Year 13 team – Phat Farmers – managed to convert their £100,000 to £154,497. This put them 93rd out of 8048 teams and gained them a place in the North Wales & East Midlands Regional Final on 26th March where they competed against 20 teams from schools across the region.
The team of four students – J Johnson, A Smith, J Ford and A Robinson – finished 11th out of 20 in the region and despite not winning the trip to New York, they enjoyed taking part in the competition. Jack Johnson said “It was good to compete against teams of students from a range of other schools and we enjoyed the day”.
Well done to J Johnson, A Smith, J Ford and A Robinson and hopefully a CCS team will do even better next year!
