U17 District Athletics Competition

A small select team of athletes competed at the competition this year, mostly consisting of Year 10 pupils. Considering they were competing against Year 11 pupils from other schools, performances and results were excellent. Among the boys B. Brumpton came 2nd in the 200m final, C. Malone 2nd in 100m and 3rd in 200m , J. Bowen 2nd in 400m final, G. Herbert 2nd in 800m, K. Garlick 2nd in 1500m and B. Howard 2nd in the Long Jump. All the above boys will now go through to the County event in June. In addition to this, the Boy’s relay team of B.Brumpton, C. Malone, L.O’Rourke and B.Howard put in a great performance recording a time of 49.4 secs in the 4 x 100m relay and came first. In the field events, CCS athletes didn’t fair so well but gained valuable experience for future competitions. L.O’Rourke – High Jump, J.Hopwood Shot and Discus and F.Clark Discus. Well done to all boys.

In the girls competition K.Swann came 2nd in 100m and L.Jump, E. Long came 3rd in 800m, Z.McAiney 2nd in the Discus, and also go through to the County Competition. In addition L. Morton – 1500m, L.MacKenzie – Shot, E. Anyoha – 200m, and N. Barry – High Jump performed to their best and managed to record PB’s. The girls relay team of N.Barry, K.swann, L.MacKenzie and E. Anyoha managed 2nd place in the relay.

Congratulations to all Athletes who managed to out perform and compete against pupils in Year 11. It was great to see pupils performing to their best and so many going through to the County Finals. Well done to all.
