Year 7 Cricket v Great Houghton

Another windy day at the CCS cricket bowl and a County cup game against very capable opponents. CCS were put in to bat first and were keen to register a score of a 100 within the 18 overs. Despite losing a wicket early on, V.Patel took up the challenge, assisted by R. Chamberlain who together made a 14 over stand against some fast bowling. R.Chamberlain picked off the singles, eventually being bowled for 17 and V Patel hit 6 boundaries on his way to a very impressive 33 before losing his wicket while trying to hit another boundary! The team fell a little short of their target of 100 runs , achieving a respectable 93 for 4 wickets.

All CCS players (apart from the Wicket-keeper), offered to bowl at least 1 over which is a reflection of the depth of ability in the team. The bowling was tight in difficult conditions with O. Coade, R. Chamberlain, and V Patel keeping the run rate of the opposition down in the early overs. T.McGowan popped up with a very good ball which claimed the wicket of the Gt. Houghton opener and at the half way stage of the innings the run-rates were even and it was anyone’s game. The remaining opening batsman accelerated in the final overs and steered his team to a victory with 4 overs in hand. A competitive debut for the Year 7 team and we hope that they improve further from this point onwards.

Well done lads!
