Year 10 County Cup Football v Dantree

On a sunny September evening, Danetre played host to CCS on a firm and sloping pitch. Our talented side started the game with confidence, however found themselves one nil down inside the first 10 minutes! CCS immediately fought back with a well finished goal by R Clifton. This was followed up by clinical finishing from N Thumbwood who managed to tuck away a lovely cross from J Flynn. M Pawluk C Mitchell, J Mennell, L Williams and P Howgego defended with enthusiasm and determination to keep the score at 2 – 1 to CCS at Half time.

CCS had chances to take the game away from Danetre however simple mistakes allowed the hosts to score early in the second half. Heads did not go down and CCS continued to play all of the attractive football. N Schampier, E Herbrt , J Flynn and N Thumbwood passed the ball with precision and speed through the opposition midfield and chances came thick and fast. Flynn finally managed to let the pressure talk with a left foot finish from inside the box. 3 – 2 CCS!!

With 15 minutes to go CCS tinkered with the formation, with N Schampier holding in midfield. However defending continued to be an issue and to the opposition’s credit they hit back…….again!! It would have been easy for heads to drop but this CCS team are made of sterner stuff and went ahead for the 3rd time with a fantastic “poachers” goal from J Flynn. With solid defending being the order of the day, CCS were unable to keep out a resilient Danetre attack. They equalised yet again with only 4 minutes on the clock. L Williams was clearly upset (as were his team mates……… and manager…….). Their chance of winning the game in normal time had gone and extra time beckoned.

J Flynn Man of the Match

JP Fourie and E Herbert had chances in the dying minutes which were close but not close enough. Finally with 1 minute on the clock J Mennell, P Howgego, L Williams and N Thumbwood managed to stifle a last gasp attack from Danetre and cleared the ball for E Herbert to head on. J Roberts who had run non stop all game, controlled the ball on the turn and ran through for a one on one with the Danetre keeper. A hush descended on the crowd as Roberts executed a cool calm finish into the bottom corner. The celebrations were deserved as the full time whistle blew. Congratulations on a fine win lads!!

Final score Danetre 4 CCS 5, Good luck in the next round.
