It was a sunny but fresh day as CCS entertained a strong Abbeyfields outfit. There were a few changes in place for this game so the squad looked like this; T McGowan, R Chamberlain (Capt), O Ghvarmi, N Chapman, S Caldera, C Byfield, S Nichlous, C Tew, S Hamp, A Roberts, E Baldwin, S McConnell, B Wild-Smith, P Griggs, S Heavey and B Gernon.
CCS started brightly despite a ‘strange’ smell that comes part and parcel of having a school next to a farm! A Roberts came close on two occasions, once breaking clear and striking the woodwork! E Baldwin also went close but with time running out before the half time whistle good work from Hamp on the left resulted in a deep far post cross smashed in by Roberts. Abbeyfields had rarely troubled in the first half but the sun and wind would change that in the second half.
Abbeyfields had much more of the ball and created many more chances in the second half. CCS still created chances and a rare S Hamp header put the home side 2-0 up!
Abbeyfields piled forward now and were rewarded when winning a penalty duly dispatched by their captain. The away side pushed on and despite a couple of close calls CCS managed to hold on a book a place in the next round of the cup…….
Well done to the whole squad, you ALL played a part!
