I write to let you know that we have had some information from Northampton General Hospital following a serious illness suffered by one of our Y13 students, who is now recovering. This student has been on exam release for several weeks so contact with other students in other year groups will have been minimal. The diagnosis is suspected meningitis so we have checked with the hospital, the PCT and the Health Protection Agency to get best advice. The Health Protection Agency is responsible for ensuring that schools know exactly what to do in such circumstances. They advise that the risk to adults and children here at school is very low. They are not recommending that school takes any action other than to send this letter. Our two local surgeries, Wootton and Grange Park, have also been informed so that they can look out for any associated problems.
Please click on the following link for a letter from the Health Protection Agency giving parents detailed advice on this matter. Parents who need further details or further reassurance on this matter are advised to contact their own GP or the Health Protection Agency.
