CAROLINE CHISHOLM PRIMARY PHASE BUILDING PROJECT UPDATE
WEDENESDAY 1ST SEPTEMBER
PRIMARY PHASE CLOSED TO ALL PUPILS ON MONDAY 6th SEPTEMBER
OPEN FOR THE START OF TERM ON TUESDAY SEPTEMBER 7th
Further to the information about the change to the start of term for primary phase children via Schoolcoms, the situation with regard to the building work and the completion of the work to the existing building and the extension is as follows:
The existing primary phase building has had extensive work carried out during the summer break to transform the facilities for two form entry. Final completion of the internal works is by the close of day on Friday September 3rd.
The internal building work has caused extensive disruption to preparations and set up for the start of term and after serious consideration with regard to the health & safety and well being of children it will not be possible to open the primary phase on Monday 6th September as planned. Staff have been working extremely hard to unpack- reorganise and prepare the accommodation that they have been able to access. On Monday September 6th the primary building will be clear of builders and facilities management staff and school staff will be in a position to prepare the temporary classroom accommodation until the extension is ready. All school health and safety, fire evacuation plans and preparations of temporary classroom facilities will be completed on Monday 6th September, enabling a smooth and safe start to the term for all our children on Tuesday 7th September.
The extension is on schedule to be completed by the end of September. The external ground works have been delayed by the volume of rain that has fallen recently. The impact of this being that the primary playground will not be re-instated for the start of term. On Tuesday 7th September, access to the primary phase will follow the same arrangements that were in place at the end of last term.
All Year 1 children in Miss Austin and Miss Hayes’ classes will enter via the green gate and along the temporary pathway and through the external doors to either Reception or Y1 (Miss Hayes’ class). Y1 Miss Hayes and Miss Austin will be at the gate to meet and greet your child on arrival. Year 2, 3 and 4 children will enter via the main grey gate. Parents are requested to drop children off at the grey gate where a member of staff will be on duty. Y2, 3 & 4 children will all go on the Piazza area to wait for the start of school hooter. Y5 & 6 children should enter via the green and wait in the area outside the temporary classroom where Y5 & 6 will be accommodated until the extension is complete.
At the end of the day Y1 children will be brought out to the green gate and handed over to parents as per their reception procedure. Y2, 3 and 4 children will exit via the new studio, adjacent to the primary office, and which will be the temporary Y3 classroom until the extension is finished. Y5 & 6 children will exit via the green gate and meet siblings and parents outside the primary office as required.
We apologise for the inconvenience and disappointment caused by the need to delay the start of term by one day but I am sure that parents will appreciate that the health, safety and well being of children on site is paramount.
I look forward to welcoming primary phase children on Tuesday 7th September.
