Free Schools Meal Information January 2011

3rd January 2011

Dear Parent

SAVE OVER £350 PER YEAR – IS YOUR CHILD ENTITLED TO A FREE SCHOOL MEAL?

If you receive any of the benefits below, your child could be entitled to a free school meal. This consists of a two course meal to the value of £2.10 which is automatically added to your child’s cashless canteen account.

  • Income Support
  • Income Based Job Seekers Allowance
  • Child Tax Credit ONLY – family income under £16,190
  • National Asylum Seekers Support
  • Guarantee Element of the State Pension Credit
  • Employment and Support Allowances (Income related only)

School dinners have recently changed with the launch of the new ‘Trinity’ menu, which means that most of the food on offer is now made from fresh ingredients, including a range of fresh fruit and vegetables.

In addition to the benefit of a regular hot meal, the number of students who register for a free school meal (even if they don’t actually take it) are included in an annual school census, the results of which are used to determine school funding for the year. The census this year will take place on January 20th. Simply registering for a free school meal before this date will have a positive impact on the funding received by the school for the coming year.

If you would like a free school meal form or to speak to someone regarding free school meals, please don’t hesitate to contact me.
