During National Science and Engineering Week, Year 7 and 8 pupils worked on a STEM cross-curricular project title entitled ‘On the Move’.
The aim of this project was for students to work successfully as a team to see how far they could make a tennis ball travel. This type of project work provides a valuable opportunity for students to develop as independent learners and strong communicators.
Students needed to use their skills in problem solving, discussion, analysing and extracting information in order to work effectively towards a common goal.
During the project pupils were given the opportunity to make designs, investigate projectiles and the trajectory of a missile, calculate costings and make an actual prototype. They tested the success of their device and collected lots of raw data. They then presented all of their findings and summarised the project in a final presentation to their peers.
