Year 9 District Cup Football Success – Tuesday 15th May v Guilsborough
On an uncharacteristically grey and dismal May afternoon the Year 9 football team faced Guilsborough in the final of the South Northants District Football Cup.
They entered the game in the knowledge that the CCS Year 8 and Year 10 football teams had already won their respective finals, becoming District Champions (adding to the pressure!)
The Year 9 team went into this game with two comprehensive wins under their belt against DWP (DWP 1 CCS 8) and Sponne (CCS 7 Sponne 1). Expectations were high and CCS got off to a flying start with a well executed toe punt from eighteen yards out by T Stanmore which nestled into the bottom corner with one minute on the clock.
CCS were in control of the first half with J Schampier pulling the strings in midfield. Their superiority in attack led to the inevitable second goal by J Gilmour who ran Guilsborough ragged all game.
The second half saw an improvement in Guilsborough’s play and CCS withstood several attempts at their goal. A Frost, the CCS goalkeeper, made a magnificent reaction save from point blank range to keep the score 2 – 0. This was the turning point of the game as CCS went on to score another two goals from J Gilmour and C Spencer, with no reply securing a comfortable 4 – 0 victory.
Well done to all the boys involved. This is certainly a team that should be pushing for the County Cup next year!!
