Year 10 District Football Cup Champions 2012

It started off very brightly for CCS when E Baldwin gave them the lead after less than one minute.  This settled the nerves and allowed the team to play some excellent free flowing attacking football that started from a solid base that included R Chamberlain, S Wilson, S Caldera and T Major-Gurney.  CCS continued to dominate with J Foster leading the line superbly and S Hamp, S Nicholas and O Ghavami pulling the strings in the middle.  J Foster latched on to a neat cross from E Baldwin to finish well for his first.  He then scored his second with an absolute pearler!   Some excellent footwork inside the box saw J Foster spin and flick the ball over a stranded keeper from a crowded penalty box.  A goal worthy of goal of the season at any level!  CCS went into the break 3-0 up and cruising, with every player dominating their position.

Sponne came out fighting, they started the second half extremely well and scored within minutes of the half to keep the game alive.  This gave them belief and allowed them to play great attacking football knowing they had nothing to lose.  CCS got caught again with a simple ball over the top that the Sponne striker finished neatly to make it 3-2.  CCS were now looking nervy with more pressure being applied.  A counter attack by a defiant and hardworking CCS ended with A Roberts grabbing a beauty to put CCS 4-2 up to halt the comeback.  Surely that had clinched the cup?  Sponne kept working hard and to their credit never gave up, fighting back to add another to make it 4-3 with 20 minutes left.  With 10 minutes left O Ghavami broke free of the Sponne defence and scored a stunner to seal the game and send the supporters and players into frenzy.  A great win to give CCS their first cup victory after being runners up last year.  A fantastic performance by all the players that showed heart, character and passion and a desire to play football in the right manner to give captain R Chamberlain the opportunity to lift the cup in style!  All the lads should be extremely proud of themselves.  A big, big well done to them all and thanks to Mr Horsley for running this team!

Final score CCS 5-3 Sponne
