School governors, senior leadership and staff attended an evening event on Wednesday 27th June 2018, to celebrate the unveiling of the plaque by the donor of a rare collection of first edition books.
The plaque reads as follows:
“This gift of rare first edition books, which are signed by both the author and artist was generously donated by Peter Shellard on behalf of his good friend Dr Trevor Weston. We also received a very substantial collection of rare signed prints by each of the illustrators, including many from Quentin Blake, who illustrated most of Roald Dahl works, along with some of Britain’s most celebrated illustrators. Peter is a local rare book dealer who has kindly donated the books and many prints. Dr Trevor Weston is the owner and founder of Clarion Publishing and probably the most celebrated publisher of significant limited edition books in Britain, specifically poetry and short stories. We are delighted to accept such a unique and wonderful donation, that our students can take inspiration from throughout the whole curriculum, from the Art department, for the purposes of illustration, to the English department, who will benefit from the poems of at least four poet laureates in the collection. We are most grateful and thank each of the donors for this extraordinary collection.”
Peter gave a talk about the history of the collection and of his good friend Dr Trevor Weston and about Clarion Press, the publishing company he founded. When Dr. Weston’s wife found out that we were going to put the hardback copies of the books in a glass cabinet (which we were going to buy) in the main school reception, she very generously offered to pay for it. Peter kindly handed over the cheque to Mr David James after the unveiling of the plaque.
We would, once again, like to thank Peter, Trevor and his wife for their kind thoughts and deeds.
