  • U16 Boys County Cup Rugby v Sponne

    Published 24/01/24, by Megan Innes

County Cup Quarter Final - Tuesday 23 January

CCS took a full Year 11 squad to Sponne for the much anticipated County Cup fixture in miserable weather conditions. The game plan from the off was to keep it tight with forwards aiming to carry hard and take on the opposition forwards. This quickly went out of the window as, after several strong carries, the backs spread it wide with accurate passing and got the ball to Zac P on the left wing, who touched down in the corner! Expansive stuff in wet and windy conditions. Monty L converted from the touch line to make the score 0-7 to the away side after 3 minutes of play.

This set the tone for the first half. CCS had the advantage of the wind and slope and made sure it counted with Louis S scoring. CCS maintained the pressure and played rugby in the Sponne half. An attacking scrum and pick up from Harry B set up a good field position for Max M to take the ball on and score under the posts to make the resulting conversion easy for Monty. CCS were now 19 points up with 20 minutes gone. With confidence growing, the players carried hard and tackled brilliantly. Just before the half time break, Monty crashed over and converted again to make the score 0-26 at half time.

The second half was an attritional affair. CCS battled the wind and slope but played smart rugby, trying to keep possession as much as possible with superb carries from a selection of the forwards and incisive running from the backs. The captain for the day, Monty, crashed over to increase the lead to 33 points. Sponne then adapted their tactics, taking advantage of the wind and resorted to a kicking game, pushing CCS back into their own half for long periods. CCS defended well as a collective but eventually conceded a try in the corner from a kick, chase. This helped to refocus the team, and they maintained possession of the rugby ball within numerous phases, eventually leading to a fantastic team try, finished off by Harry B. Max N completed the victory by touching down with one of the last plays of the game, concluding a really impressive performance from the whole squad. Final score:- Sponne 5- CCS 43.

Lovell E, making his debut, was a deserved Man of the Match following several excellent tackles and superb counter attacking play throughout the game.

Well done to all involved, and we look forward to Moulton in the Semi Final.

  • U13 Boys County Cup Football v Bishop Stopford - 11/12/23

    Published 13/12/23, by Megan Innes

After a closely fought of round of 16 results, the boys were motivated going into this game with the semi-finals on the horizon.

CCS started very strongly taking a quick 2-0 lead. However, this was cut short as Bishop scored 2 free-kicks, taking us into half-time drawing 2-2. The possibility of extra-time and penalties was something the boys did not want to entertain and went into the second half positive and ready to take the game away from Bishop, which they did, taking a 4-2 lead going into the final 15 minutes.

Bishop pulled one back to make it 4-3 before equalising again, making it 4-4. The games high pace and energy ensured it was a frantic last 5 minutes. Bishop hit the post with a free kick and within the final few seconds, scored, but to the CCS boys relief this was ruled out for being offside. Another county cup game that went to extra-time, the intensity of the game didn’t drop with both sides going close to a winner. However, extra-time came to an end and, in to a penalty shootout the boys went…

The boys were clinical scoring 4 of their penalties with Bishop scoring two, but Lenny F made two fantastic saves, securing the CCS win taking them through into the semi-final.

Caroline Chisholm School 4 – 4 Bishop Stopford School (CCS win 4-2 on Penalties)

    MOM: Lenny Faruku

  • Year 5/6 Boys Football Final at Daventry - 07/12/23

    Published 11/12/23, by Megan Innes

For only the second time in CCS primary history, we reached the district football finals last Thursday. The team have been playing fixtures since October and ended top of their group.

On finals night, we first played a strong Brixworth side who were well drilled and kept our opportunities to a minimum. A couple of brilliant saves from Harry kept the score all square until the last minute of extra time when Oliver broke through from centre back, ran the length of the pitch to have a wonderful strike saves by the Brixworth keeper, however, our brilliant striker Caleb was poised to fire in the rebound.

In the final, we faced Bugbrooke primary. A slight change in the CCS formation had an immediate impact with Caleb’s shot being forced into their own goal. Caleb doubled our lead after 7 minutes with a smart finish.

A huge congratulations to all the boys who will travel to Moulton in January for the county finals.
