Maybe I did have a chance. The Xion threat was bad enough; never giving up, never faltering in their endless endeavour to siege the universe. They’d go for millennia, travelling stupendous distances in what would take Humans a few million years. These creatures weren’t a force to be reckoned with. We’d predicted that they had wiped out a good few dozen species, not including the countless numbers of non-sentient ones on both our planet and on exoplanets. But perhaps we’d just found our salvation, the key to survival, the only way the Human race could possibly last for the next few years, let alone the next week. But I’m getting ahead of myself. Until our tech is finished, our survival hangs in the balance.
