On Wednesday evening (18 March), the Year 8 boys’ football team produced a brilliant performance in the County Cup final against NSB, securing a memorable victory in an age category the school had never previously won.

Unbeaten all season and brimming with confidence after a dominant 6–0 semi-final win, CCS started the game on the front foot. Their bright start, which saw an assured defensive display and attacking fluidity, saw CCS take the lead from a brilliantly taken finish by O. Clements-Hill, before doubling their advantage when A. Peroni rose highest at a corner to power home a bullet header. The momentum remained with CCS, and M. Carp added a well-deserved third, capping off an excellent attacking move.

With a 3–0 lead, the team appeared in full control, until NSB hit back with two quickfire goals entering the final 10 minutes. Both sides created chances: CCS to put the game beyond doubt, and NSB to force an equaliser. In the game's final minutes, H. Beezhold delivered a goalkeeping masterclass. His string of courageous saves kept CCS ahead, but it was the final kick of the game that saw an extraordinary fingertip stop, diverting a fierce shot onto the crossbar, sparking jubilant celebrations as the referee blew for full time.

The 3–2 victory sealed the County Cup for CCS, maintaining their unbeaten year. A brilliant team performance, full of resilience, skill, and heart.

CCS Girls U16s delivered a breathtaking performance to lift the County Cup, showcasing teamwork, determination, and resilience from the first whistle to the last. The girls dominated every phase of the game, closing down their opponents at every opportunity and never letting up, a testament to their relentless spirit.

The final saw five fantastic goals, each a product of excellent passing, sharp vision, and a drive to succeed. Every strike reflected the girls’ understanding of the game, their commitment to each other, and their sheer passion for football.

This remarkable victory marks the fourth consecutive year that CCS Girls U16s have reached the county cup final—an unbelievable achievement that continues a legacy of excellence in CCS girls’ football over the last eight years.

As a teacher and coach, I couldn’t be prouder. Watching these young athletes grow in confidence, skill, and teamwork over the past five years has been incredibly rewarding. Many of these girls are now making their mark in local football, and I hope their achievements on the pitch continue for many years to come.

CCS Girls U16s have truly shown what determination, teamwork, and passion can achieve—this County Cup victory is one I am incredibly proud of. Well done CCS! A special shout out also goes to Peaches, whilst she couldn't make it to the final game, she has had a fantastic season of her own and shown incredible teamwork throughout – well done.

In keeping with the recent run of stormy weather, the match kicked off in blustery, wet conditions that made early control difficult. CCS were slow out of the blocks and were punished almost immediately, falling 2–0 behind within minutes. A series of defensive lapses only deepened the challenge, and by the 20‑minute mark CCS found themselves trailing 4–0.

This is a side known for starting slowly before outscoring their opponents later in the game—but would today follow the script? KBA struck again before the interval to make it 5–0, though a determined CCS response just before half-time offered a glimmer of hope, reducing the deficit to 5–1. Even so, it left CCS with a mountain to climb.

The second half told a very different story. CCS established complete territorial dominance, pinning KBA inside their own half for long spells. Two goals were ruled out, and several strong penalty appeals were waved away, adding to CCS’s frustration. With 25 minutes remaining, they did find the net again, narrowing the gap to 5–3 and swinging momentum firmly in their favour.

Despite their relentless pressure, CCS couldn’t complete the comeback. KBA capitalised on a late break to add a sixth goal in the closing minutes, putting the contest beyond reach.

Final Score: CCS 3–6 KBA

A true game of two halves. CCS showed tremendous character and quality after the break but ultimately left themselves with too much to do. The boys can be proud of their efforts this season. Congratulations and good luck to KBA in the final.

The game started very evenly with some great netball played. The CCS squad rotated, so all players contributed to the match and, although CCS lost 5 – 18 it was a great to see some lovely netball by both teams and for the Year 11’s to have a break from their studies to enjoy some exercise in the warmth of the sports hall.

Player of the Match I Robertson (as voted by the Quinton House)

Prior to the match, both teams observed a very respective minutes’ silence for Mr Phillips, who worked at CCS for over 16 years, taught many students and was a great friend to lots of current and ex CCS staff. Thank you to Quinton House for joining us in this moment of remembrance, and
