Term 1

C.A A563 Making quality products (30%)

Students explore the themes available, choose a task and research the design challenge to produce a detailed product specification. They explore a variety of design ideas, evaluating each one in turn against their design specification.

Term 2

C.A A563 Making quality products (30%)

Students develop one of their ideas or a synthesis of ideas into a 3D model which they evaluate and identify further improvements they can make. They produce a working drawing and plan how they will construct their final idea.

Term 3

C.A A563 Making quality products (30%)

Students spend all of this term manufacturing their product and writing up their diary of make as they go, focusing on the processes and equipment they use, the safety procedures they employ and how they achieve a high quality finish identifying when, where and how they solve any technical problems they encounter.

Term 4

C.A A563 Making quality products (30%)

Students complete the manufacture of their product and complete a detailed evaluation including testing and recording user feedback.

A565 Final exam (40%)

Time will be allocated to theory tasks and revision to prepare students for their final exam.

Up until study leave begins/the exam date, time will be allocated to theory tasks and revision to prepare students for their final exam. Practice exam technique through completing past papers.

Designing and developing ideas, 3D modelling and using ICT (students projects based on packaging or architecture design. All coursework to be completed in school.

Finalising design, planning manufacture and starting production of the making of their design. All coursework to be completed in school.

Course Input

All lessons for term focussed on practical work to complete the making of their final design. Students will be expected to attend after school catch-ups to ensure work is completed by end of term.

  • Testing and evaluation of project.
  • Remainder of term focusing on theory work in preparation for the exam.
  • All coursework to be submitted by end of term 4.

Finishes, health and safety, risk assessment, using ICT.

Course Input

Focus on exam theory revision in preparation for final exam. Including completing mock exam papers, exam technique and revising specific modules.
