Overview of Curriculum

Pupils will refine and adapt a wide range of skills, focusing on developing their precision, control and fluency. Pupils will be able to use tactics, strategies and compositional ideas to perform successfully as an individual and when outwitting opponents within a team. When they are performing, they think about what they are doing, analyse the situation, identify trends in play and devise solutions to counter their oppositions play. They reflect on their own and others’ performances identifying their own strengths and weaknesses and find ways in which they can improve them. As a result, they develop the confidence to take part in different physical activities and learn about the value of healthy, active lifestyles. Discovering what they like to do, what their aptitudes are at school, and how and where to get involved in physical activity helps them make informed choices about lifelong physical activity.

In Year 9 pupils focus on the physiological factors of health based fitness and the changes that can be made to their own fitness levels. This year is based on bridging the gap between key stages three and four and introducing knowledge and understanding that will support GCSE PE and allow pupils to fully appreciate the benefits of a healthy and active lifestyle.
