Autumn Half-Term 1
Being a scientist
In the first few weeks all pupils have an introduction to the Science course: basic scientific skills are developed and consolidated e.g. Measuring Skills use of the Bunsen Burners and general use of basic lab equipment.
Baseline assessment
First Rotation
Due to the practical nature of the subject the units within science are delivered in rotation.
Units included are: 7B1/7C1/7P1
7B1: Cells Tissues and Organs.
This is a Biology unit which uses microscopes looks at body systems, organs, our skeleton and microbes.
7C1: Reversible and Irreversible change
This is a Chemistry unit looking at Physical and Chemical reactions, combustion, fuels and acids and alkalis.
7P1: Electricity and Magnetism
This is a Physics unit which allows pupils to explore electrical circuits and various components, magnets and electromagnets.
Autumn Half-Term 2
Continuation of first rotation
Includes the units 7B1/7C1/7P1
Spring Half-Term 1
Completion of first rotation
Includes the units 7B1/7C1/7P1
Spring Half-Term 2
Second Rotation
Units included are: 7B2/7C2/7P2
7B2: Reproduction
This is a Biology unit studying human and plant reproduction, growth of a baby, puberty and adolescence.
7C2: Particles in Action
This is a very practical Chemistry unit studying states of matter and methods of separating different mixtures.
7P2: Forces and Energy
This is a Physics unit studying forces and how we measure them, friction, density, floating and sinking and energy sources.
National Science and Engineering Week
Included in this half-term are special activities designed to promote STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths). These take place in March every year.
Summer Half-Term 1
Continuation of second rotation
Includes the units 7B2/7C2/7P2
Summer Half-Term 2
Completion of second rotation
Includes the units 7B2/7C2/7P2
Revision and end of year examination
All units will be assessed by levelled end of unit assessments and pupils will be given levelled differentiated Working Scientifically tasks which will be introduced in lessons and in some cases completed for homework as extended projects.
