  • Year 6 student racing his way to the top

    Published 20/05/25

Year 6 student Toby has been racing his way to the top in local Go Karting championships.

Toby’s initial passion for Go Karting began at a young age, racing across a number of indoor and outdoor tracks, and it was quickly obvious he had a natural talent and desire to learn and be competitive.

He has been a part of the Whilton Mill Karting Academy for over 12 months now. Initially, the programme teaches core skills of STEM based learning using the medium of motorsport. Over six in-depth modules, each lasting 4 hours, covering safety, Kart control, race craft, mechanics, engineering and the science of going fast.

Following Toby’s graduation from last year’s programme, he qualified to compete in the WMKA Graduate Championship for Cadets (aged 10-12) which involves 8 races over a 6-month period. Each race includes a timed qualifier, 2 heats and a grand final. Points are awarded depending on placing, and a Championship Winner will be awarded at the end of the season.

In just his 2nd Championship race of the season, Toby qualified for the final in pole position, and led the race throughout, eventually crossing the finishing line in 1st place, just 0.2 seconds ahead of 2nd place, in a race where less than 3 seconds separated the top 6 drivers.

6 races still to go, but Toby currently sits at the top of the overall standings!

We wish you lots of luck for the remainder of the Championship Toby. We are all rooting for you!

  • Year 7 Athletics Star

    Published 20/05/25

We are pleased to shine a light on the success of Year 7 student Maximus, who has earned high praise for his recent achievements in athletics.

Maximus has always had a passion for running. His enthusiasm was evident as early as Reception, when he took part in a sports day relay race that he thoroughly enjoyed. Even then, he was already displaying impressive running form and technique.

Maximus continued to enjoy sports days at Wootton Primary School, particularly during the 2020–21 academic year. As fortune would have it, an encounter at a local supermarket in 2020 with a member of the local community and sharing his passion for running led to an invitation to join the Northampton Athletic Club once Maximus turned eight.

Following his 8th birthday in 2021, Maximus joined the club and has been training there ever since. As an Under-11 athlete, he competed in several QuadKids athletics events, which included the 75m sprint, 600m run, vortex/howler throw, and long jump.

He also represented Preston Hedges Primary School at the Year 6 Multi Academy Trust Olympics (Y6 MAT Olympics), where he earned four silver medals.

Since 2022, Maximus has taken part in the Northamptonshire County Athletics Championships. He has won silver medals in the 100m sprint (2024, 2025), 150m sprint (2023), and long jump (2025), achieving new personal bests in both the 100m and long jump at the 2025 event.

As a dedicated member of the Northampton Athletic Club team, Maximus also competes in the UK Youth Development League, Premier North/East Division. He has made remarkable progress since joining the club and is now focused on turning some of those silver medals into gold.

Well done on your remarkable achievements thus far, Maximus. We look forward to hearing more of your wonderful sporting successes.

We are excited to celebrate our Year 8 student, Charlie White! Charlie began his rugby journey with Northampton Old Scouts Rugby Football Club (NOSRFC) in September 2023, having never previously played for a team. Despite being new to the sport, he quickly showed dedication and determination, and by the end of the 2023/2024 season, he was proudly awarded 'Under 12s Most Improved Player'.

Playing in the second-row position, Charlie trains every Wednesday and takes part in matches most Sundays—whether home fixtures or away games against other local clubs, with occasional travel further afield. His commitment and love for the game have continued to grow throughout the season.

In spring 2024, Charlie joined the NOSRFC Under 13s on their tour to PGL Osmington Bay. The tour ran from Friday to Sunday and proved to be a fantastic team-building experience, helping to strengthen the bond between players both on and off the pitch.

On the Sunday, NOSRFC faced off against several teams, including High Wycombe, Swanage & Wareham, Minchinhampton, and Grasshoppers. The games were intense and physically demanding, but the team gave it their all, ending the day with two draws and two hard-fought losses.

Charlie continues to develop his skills and passion for the sport and is already looking forward to what the next season will bring.
