Ambition Confidence Success
Caroline Chisholm is an oversubscribed, academically successful all-through school that strives to develop young people into ambitious, highly successful, happy and resilient young adults. We make learning enjoyable from reception year right up to the sixth form. We provide a challenging academic curriculum, coupled with a very supportive pastoral system that values the strengths and talents of the individual student.
Ambition Confidence Success
Caroline Chisholm School was the UK’s first purpose built all-through school which opened in state-of-the-art facilities in 2004. The school is a dynamic, successful and highly over-subscribed academy with over 2000 students on roll, of which 420 pupils are in the primary phase and around 300 students in the Sixth form. It has been a busy week in the Performing Arts department! On Monday, the team presented an end of year music concert in the Drama Studio for parents and friends. The standard of work shown throughout the evening was excellent and it was a real pleasure to watch not only students who were ending their journey at CCS but also those who were just starting out as performers. Also this week, the KS3 Drama club, under the excellent direction of Miss Horner, presented two showings of the Geoff Bamber comedy they have been working on since February. With a very strong ensemble group backing up some excellent performances from the main cast, this was a truly entertaining and engaging evening. Well done to all involved!
As a reward for their involvement in the CCS Science Fair earlier in the academic year, 120 students from Years 5-8 enjoyed a fantastic day out to the National Space Centre on Tuesday. Students were able to see many interactive exhibitions in the centre and received a talk about rockets with explosive demonstrations! They also learnt more about our Solar System, within the perfect setting of the biggest planetarium in the UK. Trip staff would like to say how incredibly well behaved all 120 students were!
Yesterday, our Year 9 cohort received an informative talk from Holocaust Educational Trust Speaker, Natalie Meltzer, a third-generation survivor who continues to share the incredible story of her grandfather Harry Balsam. Harry was placed in six different concentration camps during the Holocaust, and was eventually liberated in 1945, when British government decided to allow 1,000 child survivors of the Holocaust to come and settle in the UK. Harry was one of the 732 children who travelled to Windemere in 1945 as part of a group of teenage boys and girls who became known as 'The Boys'. After being separated in 1939, Harry later found out that his father and brother Danny had also survived the war. It was an incredibly eye-opening talk and students were keen to learn more about Harry's experience during the Holocaust and asked lots of great questions, helping to deepen their knowledge, proudly demonstrated key HPL skills of enquiring and empathy.
The sun was shining for the final day of our Secondary Sports Day, and it was time for Years 9 and 10 to take their turn competing! To celebrate their last sports day, as they will be on exam leave this time next year, Year 10 students enjoyed some special new activities including dress up relay, tug of war and an added aquatic element to the assault course. With Sydney securing the win for both year groups yesterday, it's time to reveal the scores from today... Year 9 1st place - Perth - 579 2nd place - Brisbane - 482 3rd place - Melbourne - 481 (just one single point behind!!) 4th place - Sydney Year 10 1st place - Brisbane - 494 2nd place - Melbourne - 462 3rd place - Sydney - 424 4th place - Perth - 352 Well done to winners Perth and Brisbane!! A huge thank you again to all volunteers and also to our fantastic PE Department for providing such a great event for students to enjoy.
Sports Day – Day 1 Today our Year 7 and 8 students competed in a mix of traditional athletics events, including a 400m race, long jump, sack and relay races, and other exciting activities such as an assault course, soccer AM challenge, speed bounce, river crossing and netball shooting. Students have shown fantastic examples of team building and working collaboratively in a bid to secure the most points for their house! We are pleased to share the results of today's events: Year 7 1st place – Sydney – 537 points 2nd place – Melbourne – 412 points 3rd place – Perth – 396 points 4th place – Brisbane – 350 points Year 8 1st place – Sydney – 563 points Joint 2nd place – Brisbane & Melbourne – 495 points each 3rd place – Perth – 431 points Huge congratulations to winners Sydney – well done to you all! Stay tuned tomorrow to find out who will be crowned the winners for Year 9 and 10!
What a week our Year 6 children have had on their residential! The group set off to Portsmouth on Monday morning, with a quick stop at the city's historic dockyard, ahead of their ferry to the Isle of Wight later in the day. The children have enjoyed trips to both Blackgang Chine and Shanklin Chine, the Isle of Wight Zoo and Model Village in Godshill, an Evacuee Experience Day at the Isle of Wight Steam Railway, mini golf, a boat cruise and not to mention evening entertainment each night including a disco, beach trips, and even a theatre show. So many incredible memories made (and plenty of learning too ). We hope you've all had a fantastic time!

Yesterday, 31 A Level Biology students visited Whipsnade Zoo. They received a talk about the conversation work of zoos and more specifically, the work of the ZSL Charity. The talk also included interactive activity where students had to decide where to direct zoo funds, discussing different organisms and performing calculations using the zoo's formula for this. After their informative talk, students then enjoyed exploring the zoo and taking in all its wonder. We hope you all had a great time!
