  • Year 10 - End of year examinations

    Published 17/05/24, by Autumn Wilson-Haywood

    17 May 2024

    Dear parents/carers,

End of year examinations for year 10 will begin w/c 10th June.  The finalised timetable for these assessments will be sent out before the half-term break. These assessments will mirror the final examinations for each subject in terms of time, number of marks and question style.  This will give students the opportunity to experience full examination papers, whilst also giving teachers an insight into how well students have understood and can recall the learned content so far. This will enable us to identify where interventions need to be made.

As the students move into year 11, they will have two rounds of pre-public examinations (PPEs.)  The first round will be conducted during the two weeks straddling October half-term, the second will be the two weeks straddling the February half-term.  We will be tracking student progress throughout these three stages and will keep you informed of your child's outcomes at each stage.

In order for these assessments to reflect your child's true progress to date, we do advise that they prepare for these assessments.  Underperformance due to lack of revision, does not enable us to gain a reliable picture of how well a student is performing and can make it difficult to identify the real gaps in knowledge and address those through meaningful interventions.  Subject teachers will be advising their classes on what topics are covered in each assessment so that they understand where to steer their revision.  I encourage the students to ensure they have this information and to ask for support if there is anything they do not understand prior to the test.

    Kind Regards,

    Ms Gee
    Year 10 Performance Leader

  • Year 9 Parents' Evening

    Published 26/01/24, by Autumn Wilson-Haywood

    Friday 26 January 2024

    Dear parents and carers,

    Year 9 Parents’ Evening

You are invited to our Year 9 Parents’ Evening which, following the success of these over the past couple of years, will be a virtual event on Thursday 8 February from 15:30 to 20:00.

Bookings for our Year 9 Parents’ Evening will open via Edulink on Wednesday 31 January at 9am, where you can book a slot with your child’s subject teachers. The bookings system will close on Tuesday 6 February at 11:55pm.

A reminder that our GCSE Guided Choices webpage is now live via the link below, where you will find a welcome presentation from Mr Colman and the full suite of KS4 subject videos for you to view ahead of Parents’ Evening.

    https://www.ccs.northants.sch.uk/gcse-guided-choices

I also encourage you, if not already done so, to take a look at your child’s Census 1 reports via the ‘documents’ tab on Edulink, to allow you to plan your discussions with your child’s teachers.

For both Humanities and Modern Foreign Languages, appointments will be offered as a ‘free choice’. This means that all of your child’s teachers within these faculties will display on the Edulink booking page, but we kindly ask that you only book one appointment for MFL and one for Humanities. Please refer to the separate communication below for further information.

If you have not used Edulink before to book an appointment, we have listed some helpful guides below which explain the process:

For parents who have not yet set up their Edulink One account, please contact:  ithelpdesk@ccs.northants.sch.uk for your log in details.

Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any further queries.

    Kind regards,

    Lowri Briggs
    Performance Leader of Year 9

  • CCS Science Festival – Open to all students in Year 5-8

    Published 15/01/24, by Megan Innes

    Monday 15 January 2024

CCS Science Festival – Open to all students in Year 5-8

    Dear parents and carers,

We have the pleasure of inviting all learners from Year 5 to Year 8 to take part in our hugely successful ‘CCS Science Festival’ (previously known as 'Science Fair). This will be a fantastic opportunity for students to showcase their creative and innovative inventions and ideas through a Science, Technology, or Maths project of their choice. Students will work in small groups, up to a maximum of 4, and their masterpiece project will be entered in our CCS Science Festival competition. Entries will be judged by our trustees and science ambassadors from the region.

Students will also be supported to gain an accredited Bronze Crest Award for their project, a scheme that inspires young people to think and behave like scientists and engineers. A Bronze project planning form can be collected from me in the Science Department Base (Upper D) for Year 7 and 8 students and from Miss Carter in Primary for Years 5 and 6.

The CCS Science Festival will take place during National Science Week on Tuesday 12 March from 4.30pm to 7pm. All parents, carers and families are invited to this event to enjoy the interactive experiments and displays produced by our talented students of CCS.

To enter the competition, please ask your child to complete ‘an expression of interest form’, available via the link placed on your child’s year Teams page (Year 7-8), or by letting Miss Carter know (Year 5-6)

We look forward to seeing their wonderful projects and we wish you the best of luck.

    Kind regards,

    James Gardiner
    Faculty Leader of Science
