It has been wonderful to celebrate British Science Week, with lots of exciting events planned across all phases to join in with the occasion. On Monday, we hosted our Science Fair which was open to Years 5-8 with over 85 students taking part. All the projects were incredibly creative, and it was clear just how hard the students had worked on their final designs! The judging panel, made up of members of leadership and Science staff, certainly had a very tough task on their hands to pick the winners. I am pleased to share that Year 7 Elliot W came first, Year 5, Mrigakshi and Arjun came second, and third place was awarded to Ellie W, Emily W, Eve T and Nia C, all in Year 8. I’d like to say a huge well done to all entrants - you should all be very proud of yourselves for creating some truly great pieces of work! Also, in the theme of all thing’s science, both our Year 3 and Year 5 children took full advantage of our specialist science labs in secondary and got to experience various science experiments including elephants’ toothpaste (a firm favourite!), levitating paperclip and the children also got to take a look at cells under the microscope. I, and Vice Principals Andy Fisher and Liz Husband, along with our student ambassadors, have attended the High-Performance Learning annual conference at Warwick University this week. The theme of the conference was ‘developing excellence’ and each of our student ambassadors from Years 3-10 spoke about their role in helping to develop HPL here at school. It was a great opportunity to share lots of good practice with HPL schools from all around the world, and discover new ways we can further incorporate HPL into everything that we do, to continually improve life and learning at CCS. It’s been a great experience for all! A reminder that we currently have three planned Parents’ Evenings before the end of term: Primary, Year 10 and Year 12. If this includes one of your children’s year groups, please can I remind you to visit Edulink to book appointments with your child’s teachers ahead of time to discuss progress and any queries you may have. Wishing you all a wonderful weekend. David James |
