It has been quite the non-stop week, with multiple trips and events taking place, including Year 9 HPV vaccinations, a talk on road safety for Year 12, trips to Kew Gardens, the Black Country Living Museum, and much more. There were also various out of school events over the weekend, including 21 of our Year 9 students participating in their Qualifying Expedition for the Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Award, which they all passed with flying colours! Students have been preparing for this assessment for the last few months by attending training sessions after school and a practice walk last week. As part of the expedition, students had to plan a two day and one night expedition, which had to have an aim, such as to study the local wildlife. This included at least 6 hours of planned activity and walking each day, and to plan and cook a substantial meal for their group on a Trangia (pictured below). All students showed fantastic skills in collaboration, resilience, and perseverance. The Expedition section is only one quarter of the Bronze Award and students will need to continue to learn new skills, help within their community and take part in a physical activity for at least three months to earn the full award. Warm regards, David James |
