Our Year 12 work experience programme kicked off this week, with students starting their 2-week placement in a field of interest. Placements were secured in a wide range of businesses across the county, including Barclaycard, Northampton General Hospital, and Wilson Browne Solicitors, as well as some further afield, to the Cardiac Investigations Department at Glenfield Hospital and Brinkley Aerospace. The programme not only proves beneficial to students on their UCAS reference and CVs, but also allows them to gain a valuable insight into the world of work and hands-on experience, helping to steer their decisions for future pathways. On Monday, our new Year 7 cohort for September gathered for this years’ county-wide Transition Day. Students spent the day getting to know their form tutor, making new friends, and taking some time to explore the school in readiness for their start in the new academic year. We also hosted a parents information evening on the day, where they could meet some soon-to-be familiar faces, including their child’s new Performance Leader Miss Johnson and form tutor. There has been lots of positive feedback on how much students enjoyed the day and I hope parents found this a good opportunity to learn more about what’s to come for their child’s start in secondary. As a reward for their involvement in the CCS Science Fair earlier in the academic year, I accompanied 120 students from Years 5-8 on a fantastic day out to the National Space Centre on Tuesday. Students were able to see many interactive exhibitions in the centre and received a talk about rockets with explosive demonstrations! They also learnt more about our Solar System, within the perfect setting of the biggest planetarium in the UK. Please do check out our school Facebook and Instagram for some great photos from the day. We have a busy two weeks ahead as the summer holidays fast approach, with lots of exciting celebration events planned throughout the school. For now, I wish you all a lovely weekend and look forward to seeing students back in on Monday! Warm regards, David James |
