Principal's Bulletin

Monday 23 October 2023

Lots to report, following a busy end to term 1!

PPEs for our Year 11 and Year 13 students have been well underway, and I would like to say how proud I am of both cohorts in how well they have approached these exams. The aim of these assessments is to help identify any gaps in knowledge and provide us with a good indicator of performance, allowing staff to tailor how we can best support our students, ready for the second round of PPEs in February and final exams during the summer period. As well as PPEs, entrance exams have also taken place for five of our fellow Year 13 students, applying to Cambridge University or the University of Oxford.

Both our recent Meet the Tutor event and Primary Parents’ Evening provided a great opportunity for parents to catch up with their child’s class teacher / form tutor and discuss how they’re settling into the new academic year. Thank you to all who joined us for these events! Parents’ evenings for our secondary phase run between November – April and dates for each year group will be shared closer to each event.

Our youngest learners in Foundation Stage have very excitingly welcomed their parents for our Stay and Play sessions, proudly showing them around their classroom, and demonstrating some of the activities they get up to on a daily basis, and also introducing them to many of their classmates!

Big Health and Happiness Week celebrations in Primary have provided a fantastic end to term 1, celebrating our 7th consecutive year since our first event in 2016! Vice Principal Mr Fisher shares below why this cause is so important to us, “The focus in on allowing students to find an activity or hobby that helps them to relax, feel better and remain both physically and mentally healthy. This year has seen us deliver the biggest ever Health and Happiness week with the theme 'Find your little big thing', emphasising that the smallest of changes can have a huge impact on our wellbeing.

“Primary children have had an amazing week participating in Circus Skills workshops, dancing, music, planting bulbs, quick cricket, making chocolates, food tasting and many other activities in class, as well as hunting for crocheted 'Positive Potatoes' at break and lunch time, courtesy of Mrs Mason. A huge number of parents have volunteered their time to help us deliver the workshops this week and we are immensely grateful to them all. The primary phase has been buzzing with excitement and laughter this week and we are sure that the students have gained a much better understanding of what they can do to keep themselves healthy and happy going forward.”

Please do check out our school Facebook and Instagram for lots more photos from our Big Health and Happiness Week!

It is wonderful to finish term 1 on a high and I’d like to wish everyone a restful week’s break.

Warm regards,

David James
Principal
