Strictly Success! Over the past eight weeks, the Year 5 and 6 children have been working hard to learn both a waltz and a jive. They showed great perseverance and determination as they mastered each step. On Sunday afternoon, 23rd November, we took our four dance teams to compete in the Dancing Schools UK competition. All the children danced brilliantly against ten other schools! We are thrilled to share the results: Team Glitz – 1st place Team Shine – 3rd place Team Shimmer – 5th place Team Twinkle – 6th place Because of their fantastic win, Team Glitz went through to the dance-off against the winners from the morning competition. The standard was incredibly high, but Team Glitz rose to the challenge, performed beautifully and they crowned UK School Dance Champions! We are so proud of every one of our teams; their hard work, teamwork, and enthusiasm truly shone on the day. They will now continue their efforts in preparation for Grand Finals in June! A massive thank you to Miss Dennis and Mr Wood for their dedication and support. It simply couldn't have happened without the time and commitment they give.

Last Friday, children from Years 1 to 3, and our house captains in Years 5 and 6, put their coats and wellies to good use, helping plant new trees in the Primary field! Guided by experts from West Northamptonshire Council's 'RAIN' team @rain.northants they planted seven maples and cherries at the end of the field and another seven cherries and liquid ambers along the grassy bank. The RAIN (Resilience And Innovation Northants) team helps Northamptonshire communities improve flood resilience. As well as being educational, this initiative has a practical use that is relevant for the CCS Climate Action Plan because tree planting helps to catch and absorb rainwater. As these new trees mature, they will also provide welcome shade relief during hot weather. Well done to everybody who helped and thank you again to our friends from the RAIN project!

Earlier this term, our Year 3 children set off on a nature walk, using their curiosity and observational skills to gather a rich collection of autumn ideas, colours, sounds, textures and woodland scents. Back in class, they drew on this experience to craft their own autumn-themed haiku poems, using creative thinking and perseverance to refine their language choices throughout the week. Last Wednesday, they had the chance to share their work with the Year 6 pupils as everyone gathered around a warm, crackling campfire. After the poetry sharing, both year groups teamed up for a nature themed treasure hunt. Mixed-age pairs worked together, using teamwork and problem-solving skills, they located natural items around the school grounds. The afternoon concluded with both year groups gathering together to celebrate their discoveries, reflect on their learning and appreciate the beauty of the season. It was a truly memorable experience that strengthened friendships, deepened curiosity and inspired the children to look at the world around them with renewed creativity.

As part of their theme learning 'Lightning Speed', the children in Year 4 were asked to explore what the connection between electricity and lightning could be. They had many thoughtful ideas and after some research and interesting discussions, they made the link of static electricity. To bring our learning to life, we visited the Science Lab where technician, Conal kindly shared his expertise with us and showed us some fun tricks using static electricity through the Van de Graff machine. We had a hair-raising time!

Christmas came early for our Year 10 Business Studies students last week! (Though really, can it ever be too early?) Our Year 10 students have been diving into the world of market segmentation, learning how businesses divide their markets by factors like demographics, income, and location to make their products and services more appealing to the right audience. To put their knowledge into practice, students were set a festive challenge: design and create their own advent calendar aimed at a specific target market. Students produced some truly inspired creations, from gramophone-themed calendars to claw machines and even charity-inspired designs. Principal Mr Bishop came and judged the students fantastic work yesterday, selecting 3 winning calendars - 1st place: Tolani and Tom (winning their very own chocolate advent calendar! ) 2nd place: The gramophone by Rhys and Joshua 3rd place: Dubai chocolate by Charis and Wafia Well done to you all your hard work and creativity, we think it's safe to say that Santa would be impressed with the marketing magic happening at CCS in Year 10!
