Our Foundation Stage children had a wonderful time last Friday when we welcomed Vet Liz to school! The visit linked to their learning theme "Help is at Hand", helping the children understand the important role vets play in keeping animals safe and healthy. The children also took part in lots of fun role play, becoming vets themselves! They carefully placed bandages on toy animals and used play medical equipment to check their patients, showing great kindness and care. Learning about vets helps children understand the important role they play in our communities and how they help to protect and look after animals. It was a brilliant hands-on experience that brought their learning to life!

On Wednesday evening, the Year 8 boys' football team produced a brilliant performance in the County Cup final against NSB, securing a memorable victory in an age category the school had never previously won. Unbeaten all season and brimming with confidence after a dominant 6–0 semi-final win, CCS started the game on the front foot. Their bright start, which saw an assured defensive display and attacking fluidity, saw CCS take the lead from a brilliantly taken finish by O. Clements-Hill, before doubling their advantage when A. Peroni rose highest at a corner to power home a bullet header. The momentum remained with CCS, and M. Carp added a well-deserved third, capping off an excellent attacking move. With a 3–0 lead, the team appeared in full control, until NSB hit back with two quickfire goals entering the final 10 minutes. Both sides created chances: CCS to put the game beyond doubt, and NSB to force an equaliser. In the games final minutes, H. Beezhold delivered a goalkeeping masterclass. His string of courageous saves kept CCS ahead, but it was the final kick of the game that saw an extraordinary fingertip stop, diverting a fierce shot onto the crossbar, sparking jubilant celebrations as the referee blew for full time. The 3–2 victory sealed the County Cup for CCS, maintaining their unbeaten year. A brilliant team performance, full of resilience, skill, and heart. Congratulations to the boys, Mr Musgrove and the PE Department for their hard work and dedication!

On Friday, eight students from Year 12 were selected to compete as a team in the regional finals of the European Youth Parliament competition. Hosted by Birmingham Aston University, CCS were given the position of opposition in a debate regarding the rise of online misogyny and extremism, successfully proving to the other delegates at the event that the resolution presented was not sufficient to manage the issue. The team also showed excellent dedication and teamwork through creating last minute speeches for other topics such as managing the increase in asylum seekers and reducing the impact of over tourism. The students worked tirelessly in the build up to this event on their research and speech making and the judges were impressed to see persuasive and well articulated points from every member of the team on the day. A huge congratulations to all students involved!

To celebrate British Science Week, students immersed themselves with lots of fun scientific discovery and experiments. In Years 7–9, students enjoyed special lessons and fun assemblies, and our much-loved duck hatching experience returned once again this year for both primary and secondary, which is always a huge hit! In primary, children got hands-on with experiments, exploring questions like 'Can you clean dirty water?' 'Could we grow food on the moon?' 'Why is grass green?' and even tried the pepper and soap experiment to learn why handwashing is so important! They also got to enjoy using some previously donated science kits. We were also delighted to welcome inspiring visitors - David Heathcote from West Northants Council led an engaging session on waste management, helping pupils understand "Where does wrapping paper go?" and the importance of recycling in everyday life. Nedka Hristova, a midwife at Northampton General Hospital, delivered an informative talk alongside interactive classroom sessions, giving students a fascinating insight into healthcare and human development. Karishma Chugh, Tech Delivery Lead and Barclays, explored the question, "How does the internet work?" Through interactive activities, students gained a deeper understanding of the technology they use every day. A special thank you to all our visitors and of course everyone who made this week such a special experience for all, sparking curiosity and a love of science across the school!
