CCS Science Festival – Open to all students in Year 5-8

    Dear parents and carers,

We have the pleasure of inviting all learners from Year 5 to Year 8 to take part in our hugely successful ‘CCS Science Festival’ (previously known as 'Science Fair). This will be a fantastic opportunity for students to showcase their creative and innovative inventions and ideas through a Science, Technology, or Maths project of their choice. Students will work in small groups, up to a maximum of 4, and their masterpiece project will be entered in our CCS Science Festival competition. Entries will be judged by our trustees and science ambassadors from the region.

Students will also be supported to gain an accredited Bronze Crest Award for their project, a scheme that inspires young people to think and behave like scientists and engineers. A Bronze project planning form can be collected from me in the Science Department Base (Upper D) for Year 7 and 8 students and from Miss Carter in Primary for Years 5 and 6.

The CCS Science Festival will take place during National Science Week on Tuesday 12 March from 4.30pm to 7pm. All parents, carers and families are invited to this event to enjoy the interactive experiments and displays produced by our talented students of CCS.

To enter the competition, please ask your child to complete ‘an expression of interest form’, available via the link placed on your child’s year Teams page (Year 7-8), or by letting Miss Carter know (Year 5-6)

We look forward to seeing their wonderful projects and we wish you the best of luck.

    Kind regards,

    James Gardiner
    Faculty Leader of Science

  • The Young Artists’ Summer Show at the Royal Academy of Art

    Published 10/01/24, by Megan Innes

    Wednesday 10 January 2024

    Dear parents and carers,

Re: The Young Artists’ Summer Show at the Royal Academy of Art 2024

The Visual Art department is delighted to announce that we have registered our school to participate in the annual Young Artists’ Summer Show at the Royal Academy of Arts in London. All students from Reception to Year 13 are invited to enter.

This extremely prestigious event is designed to complement the annual Summer Show of established professional and emerging artists. Please note that GCSE and A level Visual Art students must not submit work they intend to use for their coursework or exam. If you would like your child to submit work for this event, then please follow the link below and search for ‘Caroline Chisholm School’: https://youngartists.royalacademy.org.uk/schools/lookup

For FAQ’s, please follow this link: https://youngartists.royalacademy.org.uk/faqs

Students may submit any work they choose to do, as there is no given theme, and they can use any appropriate medium (please see Terms and Conditions). Students can submit only one artwork. For your artwork submission, you will need a photograph (jpeg image) of the artwork, along with details including a title, medium and a short description. You can save your progress and submit later if you need more time. The deadline for entry is Wednesday 27 March 2024 at 5pm.

Student work will be selected by a panel of judges to be included in an online exhibition or the actual exhibition. Everyone who submits work will hear if they have been successful by the end of May.  Please click on the link below to view the online exhibition from 2023, which features our very own Year 10 student Jack M, who was successful in his submission last year.

We hope that students will take this opportunity to produce some amazing artwork which could be seen by an international audience, in one of the art world’s most renowned establishments. We would ask parents to please encourage their children to take part and to register using the first link on this letter.

The Visual Art department would once again like to thank parents for their continued support.

    Yours sincerely,

    Mr Stephen Walker
    Faculty Leader for Visual Art
