Network Rail - Trespassing on Depots and Sidings

We would like to share with all parents and carers some important information on behalf of Network Rail regarding their new electrical safety campaign.

Trespassing on the railway network is a growing problem.

Since 2016, three school aged children have lost their lives, whilst sixteen children have suffered major life changing injuries whilst trespassing on the train tracks. There has been an increase of trespass on or near overhead line equipment within railway depots and sidings.

The electricity is always switched on and tragically our hard-hitting statistics show that:

  • 90% of people die when they are struck by it
  • 10% are left with life- changing injuries, including burns, amputations, and that is not to mention the emotional scars that will be left behind
  • During the first month of the Government’s Covid-19 lockdown, 1,024 trespass incidents were recorded

Network Rail in partnership with Learn Live are working to help raise awareness to students across the UK educating them about the dangers of the train tracks through interactive digital delivery.

We urge you to please view the relevant free safety videos on the Learn Live Channel by clicking on the link below:

Over 8 million students, parents and teachers from across the UK have significantly decreased the number of trespasses in their area through watching the safety clip.
